| BUSINESS SCHOOL OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP TO DISABLED |
[Oct. 8th, 2004|05:18 am] |
The AUBG College of Business (CoB) offers a four-year scholarship program for students with physical disabilities. The program is carried out in association with the Global Compact U.N. initiative. With this scholarship, the CoB demonstrates its commitment to promoting social equality, Asya Chepileva, business development and coordination manager at the CoB said.
Students who qualify for admission and are physically disabled are considered eligible, Chepileva added. CoB student Vladimir Gyurov received the scholarship. Chepileva said the program might become a regular practice, but no certain commitment can be done at this point. The scholarship could also be implemented at AUBG, President Bloom said. “I will consider offering scholarships for the handicapped, but I believe that it should, first of all, be pushed by the students through the Student Government,” Bloom said at a meeting with student media. Hebros Bank changed its student loan policy toward AUBG’s international students twice this week. First, their parents had to sign the loan contract before a Bulgarian consul. Last week students were notified that the consul had to sign and stamp their contracts. Chief Financial Officer Alexander Alexandrov said he disagrees with the new procedure, and arranged a meeting with bank officials on Thursday, Oct. 7. On Wednesday evening, Oct. 6, a new e-mail from Hebros Bank informed the international loan applicants that they reversed their decision. (A.R.) |

| STUDENTS FINED FOR LATE BULGARIAN ID APPLICATION |
[Oct. 8th, 2004|05:25 am] |
|
Four returning AUBG students were fined 500 levs for late application for the renewal of their Bulgarian ID cards. The cost of the Bulgarian ID card for international students enrolled after February 2001 is 527 levs, unless they are from the United States or China and pay 17 levs, Pavlova says in an email to the students. The SG formed a task force to investigate the possibilities to reduce the cost of the Bulgarian ID card. (F.C./N.G.) |
